On Saturday, June 20, our guest speaker was the founder of the grassroots non-profit Connor’s Cause, John Champ, and executive director, Carol Del Signore. Connor’s Cause is a small non-profit 501(c)(3) helping families to take care of their sick kids. Examples of the help they provide through donations include:
* Helping to pay basic bills like utilities, car payments, gas, groceries.
* Helping the military families.
This non-profit got its start when John Champ’s son was diagnosed at 3 years old with cancer. “How do you explain to your child that he is going to lose his body?” John asked. His story brought tears to members’ eyes. His message was about providing resources to those people who don’t have a lot of loved ones in their lives to help. That is why they depend on donations from service organizations such as ours to help promote the optimism, when families experience set-backs due to their sick children.
Connor’s Cause currently helps more than 300 families a year with a lifetime limit per family of about $2,000. Referrals come from Oceanside Public Health system and Rady Children’s Hospital. For more information about Connor’s Cause, visit: www.connorscause.org
